The World Health Organization has launched a public consultation on the Draft Research and Development Blueprint Material Transfer Agreement tool text.
A material transfer agreement is a contract that governs the transfer of research materials between two organisations. The contract defines the rights of both the provider and recipient with respect to the materials and any derivatives, according to the WHO website. Marie-Paule Kieny, assistant director-general for Health Systems and Innovation at the WHO, said that the draft material transfer agreement entails different options for common articles such as ownership, benefits and IP management.
The draft will result in an interactive webtool accessible for different users. The objective is to help stakeholders, especially developing countries, to build capacity to develop material transfer agreements governing materials and information, according to the website of the WHO.
The WHO website states that individuals and organisations can submit comments on the draft agreement by 16 June.
