Are major public health donors overly influencing the scope and diversity of scientific research?

  1. Fist of all, I apologize becuase I`m not a native english speaker, so I may write in a very funny (ugly) way. I think it is quite probable that public health donors (public o private institutions) will set an agenda, may be, in a very diplomatic style, however, that agenda (I mean a list of priorities) is going to be related to specific needs in specific (powerful) sectors. Science is not neutral, we already know that, and also, science is not only guide by goodwill or humanity interest, research is also an activity promoted by commercial objectives. That´s one of the reasons that explain “orphan diseases”. For Third World countries, this is a big issue, becuase we can end up as a big factory for “scientific contractors”.
