A new private sector report shows that billions of visitors are successfully going to websites selling products and services worldwide, but accentuates the fact that many of these visits involve transactions not controlled by the intellectual property rights owners.

MarkMonitor, a service which monitors and protects corporate IP rights such as trademarks online, has released a report on internet traffic showing tens of billions of visits per year to just a few websites offering counterfeit products.

The Motion Picture Association of America issued a statement calling on US lawmakers to take action against the biggest infringing sites.
